Many merchants mistakenly believe that payment agents, ISOs, cashiers, and gateways can act as payment consultants, or payment strategists, but this is far from the truth.
The idea of receiving independent, professional advice from someone trying to sell you their services is problematic. Merchants who rely on payment agents or salespeople are often left without the full picture.
To identify who is advising and why, just ask yourself: Cui bono? (Who benefits?)
- Why does someone want to convince me to send as much volume as I can, when it’s not really a risk-averse approach?
- Why are they recommending only a limited set of payment providers or solutions?
- Are they tied to specific partnerships that benefit them more than they benefit my business?

You need a strategy that considers everything—risk management, cost optimization, and the latest technological advancements.
